Android is a 2011 ‘s Open Source story year

As we bid for 2011, there are a lot of stories that appear on what we’re writing this story, which then reflect on why Android was halted after so much hype early. Now, new smartphone data out of comScore, and it shows Android creeping toward the market share of 50 percent in the United States

Looked briefly at comScore’s latest data on the smartphone platform in the United States:

As you can see, Google was ordered close to half the smartphone US market as of November, and there is little doubt that it will command more than half in 2012. If you cycle clock back to 2008, when doubts about the future of Android’s runs rampant, the position today it seems hard to believe.

Add to that the fact that Google Motorola mobility acquisition will create a big player in the smartphone market, hardware and it seems likely that the Android’s market share will grow more. By comparison, Google’s foray into computer-based operating system – Chrome OS – have been small scale experiments. Android is an OS company success.

If you look at the market-share diagram above, it’s also amazing to note how far the Symbian platform has been tripped. And, as we’ve noted before, stumble it is a direct result of Nokia and Symbian Foundation fails to provide an open source platform at the time.
